Greenholme is a 15 acre smallholding where we breed Alpacas near the small village of Killington.

Ideally placed for exploring the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Eden Valley,Trough of Bowland, Hadrians Wall, Scottish Borders and much more, by foot, by car or bicycle. Ideal base for walkers, or just relaxing in this tranquil setting overlooking the mountain scenery and Alpacas we keep on the farm, there is always something going on in the vista and ever changing scenery, a favourite with artists that we regularly have to visit.

Safely secluded - Quiet Location - ¼ mile up its own private road in an elevated position with magnificent views over the Lune Valley and Howgills looking towards Sedbergh and beyond, on the intersection of two footpaths giving immediate access to a extensive footpath network, (no need to use the car). Open countryside all around with Right to Roam access land only a field away. If you like swimming the river is my favourite and just 1/2 a mile away at the bottom of the hill (also good for a picnic or a bit of a book read).

The Accommodation comprises of two adjoining cottages, a recent conversion from farm buildings, designed for all year occupancy with a high insulation and double glazing. Centrally heated with additional wood/multi fuel stoves in the living room for that real fire atmosphere.

To the Fell

Walking .- Footpaths from the door - No need for the car - to suit all levels, from gentle valley and riverside walks to demanding routes across Hill and Dale.

North - takes you throe Cowby wood and on to Foxes pulpit ( Dales Way 1 mile.)

South - takes you to Killington Village then on down the valley passing throe, Rigmaden, Mansergh onto Kirkby Lonsdale.

West - is over the fell (right to roam land - bracken and heathers) it emerges in 2 miles at Killington Reservoir with sailing boats and nature reserve. Also in this direction is a SSSI at Lane Ends.

East - goes to the River Lune then onto Sedbergh and Howgills the Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales National Park - Dentdale - Garsdale - Barbon Dale - Wensleydale, Eden Valley and Limestone Country. with 3 the Peaks. Inglebourgh - Wernside and Penygent if you like a challenge.

Wildlife. As well as having Alpacas, we have a large variety of wildlife in the area. Deer on the hillside behind us, foxes and badgers occasional visitors. This year we have had our first otter sighting reported. The bird population is very varied (Leighton Moss wild life reserve 25 minutes drive), buzzards are a common sight circling above the fields on most fine days, curlews in the spring bring their own magical sound as do the oyster catchers when they come up from the river Lune below us. We also have Dippers, Kestrels, Sparrow hawks, Herons, Woodpeckers , Stonechat's , Owls and many more species. A walk across the fell from us will bring you to Killington reservoir where many ducks and geese winter on the nature reserve.
